Bonjour mes amis! Recepción a nuestro podcast. A slight international feel to this introduction because this month we are tackling some foreign language films. Joining Stephen and Joe on the Pod-Couch this month is actor, raconteur, puppeteer and coffee maker, Murray Andrews. Murray has been working with Stephen for quite some time and the two have co-produced several things including:
Murray has also starred in many of the Malvern Bard productions and is currently… resting.
Our first film today is one of my favorites, the BAFTA award winning magnum opus of Guillermo del Toro’s career, “Pan’s Labyrinth” (“El laberinto del fauno”). In this war-time fable, our heroine, Ofelia, dissappears in to a fantasy realm whilst the world around her disintegrates.
“In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. “
I thought we needed something a little lighter after the emotional roller-coaster of the preceding film and so we turned to the latest offering from legendary director Luc Besson. Best known for “The Fifth Element”, Besson introduces us to the world of Adele Blanc Sec. Based on a French graphic novel, Adele is a typical heroine, a female adventurer and writer who sets out on an extraordinary adventure which is both comical and entertaining.
“An adventure set in the early part of the 20th century and focused on a popular novelist and her dealings with would-be suitors, the cops, monsters, and other distractions. “
